The word ceramics is derived from the Greek word "Keramikos", a generic term for "inorganic, non metallic materials, whose formation is due to the action of heat": compliments of our threadbare dictionary and Wikipedia.
These inorganic, non metallic materials include clay based products, such as stoneware, pottery, china and porcelain.
